What a genuine, easy-going wedding this was! Heather was in the visual communications program at Ohio University with Emily, so they spent years in the same multimedia classes. Emily actually photographed Heather a few times for some of her various photography classes over a decade ago, so this wasn’t the first time she was in front of Emily’s camera.

Heather is from Ohio and is quite the world traveler. James is from the UK. Their decor featured maps and music sheets and a ton of handmade items by Heather. She designed the invitations, program, menu, and all paper items. She also did the calligraphy herself. Probably the most impressive DIY item was the timeline that Heather designed & printed for the reception. The timeline was a great visual showcase of both James and Heather’s lives until this point.

We began our coverage at Portland’s stylish Hotel Monaco. Shooting getting ready coverage with the lush, eclectic decor as a backdrop was a great way to start the day. Her gorgeous dress was vintage, as was her lovely maid of honor’s dress.

Throughout the day, we got to meet Heather and James’s incredible team of vendors who all turned out to be talented friends. The hair/makeup artist, floral artist, ceremony musicians, DJ… they were all dear friends who came together to make this wedding beautiful and genuine.

One of our favorite moments of the day was when James opened a ginormous bottle of champagne immediately after the ceremony while the guests were still patiently seated. We are now firm believers in popping bottles of bubbly directly after exchanging vows! It was the perfect way to kick off an evening of mingling and celebrating two wonderful people and the love surrounding them.
