Here’s some Oberports Lore that you might know: we’re both big nerds. We love all sorts of science stuff, so you better believe we were absolutely stoked to photograph Julie and Keith’s Carnegie Museum of Natural History wedding in Pittsburgh.
These two were a blast to work with and they really let us cook to make some cool art using the inspired surroundings of the museum space. We got to take photos of Keith and his groomsmen under the hulking T-Rex fossils on display and we loved doing portraits in the Hall of Architecture. Their wedding ceremony took place on the Grand Staircase and the reception followed in the Hall of Sculpture.
At the end of the night we snuck outside to get some fun photos of the couple. Yes, there was a spraying bottle of champagne involved. It’s a celebration!

Best Photo Locations at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History
It can be a bit overwhelming to find the best photo spots at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. This is a museum, so there is no shortage of spots for gorgeous photos. These are the three spots we recommend:
- Hall of Dinosaurs
- Hall of Architecture
- Grand Staircase
The Hall of Dinosaurs is awesome because, well… who doesn’t like dinosaurs? This is a permanent exhibit at the museum, and features lots of cool real fossils including a Tyrannosaurus Rex and a Triceratops! If you scroll on down you can see one of the photos we took with good ol’ T-Rex in this post!
The Hall of Architecture is a big open space featuring plaster cast replicas of many great pieces of art from around the world. These beautiful works of art make for gorgeous photo backdrops– scroll to see some photos from this space.
The Grand Staircase is a real stunner. This space is a popular ceremony setting (see the photos below). Both floors of the staircase have a mural depicting working class labor and its privotal role in the history of Pittsburgh.
There are plenty of other great photo locations in the museum too, including: the Founder’s Room and Hall of Scultpure. The Founders Room is a popular space for wedding couples and their families to get ready or just hang out, and the Hall of Sculpture is a fantastic location for receptions (check out the photos in this post).
