We’re the recommended wedding photographers for the Confluence Event Center in Hico, WV. Weddings at this beautiful outdoor venue put you right in the middle of nature.

This venue is a sprawling outdoor wedding and event space that is named for the confluence of the Gauley and Meadow rivers. It’s one of the most beautiful places to get married not only in Fayette County, but in all of West Virginia.

For weddings at this resort couples have numerous options for their festivities. Ceremonies typically occur on a clifftop overlooking the Gauley and Meadow rivers. Receptions are now held in the brand new industrial barn space known as the Confluence Event Center.  Lodging is also available at various cottages located around the resort grounds.

It’s somewhere in between an hour and an hour and a half from us in Charleston, and located about 15 minutes-ish from our favorite small town in WV: Fayetteville. No matter which route you take to get to the there, you can’t avoid at least a few miles of gravel roads. And we love that about the place. We love how remote it is. It always feels like you’re on “Confluence Time” out there- no city noises, just birds chirping, bugs buzzing, and dogs barking. Couples usually have their ceremony on the Cheri Bluff, a giant rock protruding out of the mountainside. It’s a truly gorgeous spot to exchange vows. Then guests just walk back up the hill for the cocktail hour and reception, and often head back down the opposite side of the hill for some fun barn after-partying.

We’ve worked at the Confluence Event Center many times over the years as wedding photographers. The resort is large, so getting from one photo location to the next can require a little bit of time. Luckily, the staff for this venue provides transportation to quickly move from locations. The overlook ceremony location can be tricky with its variable lighting conditions, but experienced West Virginia wedding photographers should have no problem.

There is a pond and an old barn located close to the reception area and those spots tend to yield good results for those looking for rustic or outdoorsy wedding portraits.

The secluded nature of this venue also makes it a great destination for couples looking to elope. Luxuriously modern-yet-rustic cottages here make great settings for intimate ceremonies. Couples who like to be even closer to nature can also hike some of the resort’s 300+ acres to find the perfect spot to say their vows.

If you are outdoorsy and love the idea of a remote venue that’s only 15 minutes away from one of the best small towns in the state of WV, then this might be the venue for you.

Experienced Confluence Event Center Photographers

This was one of the very first wedding venues we ever worked at! When we first shot there in 2009, it was also the Confluence’s first year at this wedding thing. Imagine everyone’s surprise when one of our photos from my first Confluence wedding (and one of our first 10 weddings we ever shot!) made the cover of WV Weddings Magazine in 2010!

Our wedding businesses have both grown a lot in these last 8 years, and it’s been wonderful to drop by Hico, WV for visits each year to see the property evolve.

Dog Friendly WV Wedding Venue

Have we mentioned we love dogs? We love photographing them, we love rubbing their bellies, we love giving them “scritches”. And we love that dogs are welcome at this resort, so couples can bring their canine buddies with them to share in the wedding weekend memories. There’s a ton of acreage for those good doggos to run wild, and it’s so much fun to catch snaps of them playing or napping throughout wedding days.

The Staff

Owner Pervis Major is good people. He just gets it. He’s there to chauffeur your elderly family to the Cheri Bluff for the ceremony. His staff moves chairs between the ceremony overlook and the reception tent quickly and efficiently. They usually have a spare golf cart or two for couples to use when we take photos.

It’s not easy owning so many acres of land and weathering natural disasters- we remember his beautiful peach trees got wiped out after a disastrous derecho storm tore through West Virginia in late June a few years back. In fact, our view of ceremonies has changed so much since we first started shooting there in 2009. What used to be a rock surrounded by trees is now a rock with a window-like view of the mountains. Mother nature has left her mark on this land, but it’s still as beautiful as ever.

And Pervis has put a lot of work (and money) into upgrading the facilities over the years. What once used to be a tent on a hill from a rental company is now a industrial barn space just a couple of minutes from the ceremony bluff.
