Greenbrier Resort Wedding Photography

Okay, so we’re very experienced in shooting weddings and elopements and more at The Greenbrier. We’ve photographed everything from large weddings with hundreds of guests, intimate elopements, to engagement sessions and bridal portrait sessions. You name it, we’ve shot it. When it comes to photos at The Greenbrier Resort, we know what we’re talking about!

The Greenbrier has continued to evolve as a venue and in recent years added a beautiful wedding chapel on its grounds. One big appeal of this location is that couples can get married and have their reception without ever having to leave the resort. A short walk (or romantic carriage ride!) allows you get get from the main hotel to the chapel in just minutes.

The Greenbrier is considered to be one of the crown jewels of West Virginia and is one of the most popular wedding venues in the state. It’s important to keep in mind that this venue sees a lot of traffic and there are frequently multiple events going on any given weekend. We generally have to work around other visitors to the hotel when shooting portraits on wedding days at the Greenbrier.

Location Info

The Greenbrier Resort is nestled in the Allegheny Mountains of southern West Virginia. The resort spans 11,000 acres of land and boasts over 700 guest rooms, a golf course, tennis arena, equestrian stables and many other amenities.

This place is a wedding photographers playground, offering a dizzying array of brightly colored and patterned spaces for creative wedding photos. This upscale and colorful wedding and reception venue is one of our favorites in West Virginia.

What are the Wedding Ceremony Locations at The Greenbrier?

This resort is most recognized for its stylish, colorful decor created by internationally renowned interior designer Dorothy Draper. Though this redesign of the hotel happened way back in 1948, it stands the test of time, remaining as bold today as it was back then.

So we’ve said that this place is a photographer’s playground, but really it’s a playground for everyone! The list of things you and your guests can do while staying at The Greenbrier is exhausting, but here’s a few activities we love (and we know your guests will love):

• Play a round of golf on their famous golf course
• Take the super cool Bunker Tour
• Hit afternoon tea time in the main lobby
• Falconry (we’ve actually done an engagement session with this before)
• Bowl a few frames in their bowling alley
• Lose your money (or win some) at the casino

Greenbrier History

Since 1778 people have been visiting the Greenbrier Resort to relax, dine and have a good time. During the late 1950s the space was commissioned by the federal government to build an emergency bunker for Congress,as the resort is located a short train ride away from the nation’s capitol in Washington, DC.

The resort was purchased by WV billionaire Jim Justice in 2009 who has since expanded its facilities and attracted both the PGA and NFL. The venue annually hosts the Greenbrier Classic PGA tour event and the New Orleans Saints NFL team holds practices at Greenbrier athletic facilities. A wedding chapel was constructed on the resort property in 2015.
